What are Shockwaves?

Shockwaves are sound waves that are delivered to the injured area by a handpiece with a projectile inside. This projectile is accelerated forward with compressed air which impacts a special transmitter. The impact creates mechanical energy in the form of shock waves which get dispersed into the tissues.

The shock waves irritate the injured area, resulting in a significant biological healing responses from your own body. This effect is magnified when treatments are performed every 3-7 days over 4-6 weeks.

Shockwave Protocol

Most conditions require 4-6 treatments for a significant treatment effect. To maximize the effects of your treatment package, 1 treatment must occur every 3-7 days. This consistent treatment pattern maximizes the healing response from the body. After the last treatment, you wait an additional 4-6 weeks to wait for the full effects of shockwave therapy to work. The beneficial inflammation which shockwaves cause continues to remodel, repair, grow new blood vessels etc. to improve the injured area. During this time, it is expected that loading exercises will be performed as recommended by your San Diego shockwave specialist.
